Releasing a draft pushes your interactive template from Studio to the Rise extension. Until you release, your work is only visible in Studio — releasing is what makes it available for use in your courses.

Your first release

When you create a new interactive template, it starts as an unreleased draft. At this stage it only exists in Studio. You won't see it in the Rise extension yet.

Once you're happy with the interactive and its template form, click Release draft… in the toolbar. This creates Version 1 and makes the template available under Studio Templates → Created by me in the Rise extension.

You may need to refresh Rise after releasing to see the template appear in the extension.

The draft state

After your first release, any changes you make to the template in Studio put it back into a draft state. You'll see Draft and the number of changes indicated next to the title in the toolbar.

Think of a draft as a workspace for experimenting. You can build new features, test different configurations, or take the interactive in a new direction — all without affecting what's currently live in Rise.

Click the Draft badge to see a timeline of all changes made during the draft, summarized by AI and attributed to the tool that made them. This gives you a quick picture of what you'd be releasing.

While in a draft state, you have two options:

Before releasing, toggle on Authoring test mode and try different content in the template form. Make sure your changes hold up before they go live.
